There couldn’t have been a better way to mark the end of the DNA YA! Funshala. The third day of the Funshala workshop saw the kids go through several lessons of cinematic expressions with none other than director Amol Gupte, of the Taare Zameen Pe fame.

Delighted to see this maverick, the kids flocked to him as he walked in. Talking about his experience at the Funshala, Gupte said, “I really enjoy being with kids. I feel that children have a better ability to understand things than most adults.”

Rajesh Mohan, strategic and technology head of hotel Sahara Star, the venue for the event, said, “I have been a part of it for the last four years now. This is not only educational but also provides a great experience to the kids – something that does not happen in schools.”

The kids were taught some of the basics of cinema and film making. Gupte made this exercise simple and more comprehensible by showing documentaries as examples. For instance, he screened a Charlie Chaplin movie to make the kids learn the use of facial expressions and how a movie can be made into a piece of brilliance even without the use of dialogues and sounds.

Concluding the workshop, Gupte said “I would like to keep taking up issues concerned with kids and use cinema to showcase it.”
