One of Hyderabad’s most sought after designers, Asmita Marwa, is all set to return to Bangalore as part of the Blenders Pride Fashion Tour. The designer, who has been credited with bringing in style into Tollywood, is quite excited to see how the Telugu film industry has transformed itself today.

“When I began designing two decades back, no one had ever imagined the use of designers in films. But the clothes and styles used in films like Santosham and Manmathadu were seen as path breaking and iconic,” says Asmita. The designer adds,

“Today, it is really nice to see how the industry has transformed. All the girls, and even the boys, have stylists who create special looks for each film. I’m personally very fond of Charan. I find him the most stylish.”

Coincidentally, Asmita’s  theme for the collection that she is showcasing in the city is metamorphosis. “My collection is very contemporary. It is a look at how fashion has transformed from the 70s to the 80s and into the 90s. From the flower power generation to the retro chic, Studio 54 generation, I take a look at how fashion has transformed as I lend it a contemporary look,” says Asmita.

She adds, “Though it will mean retro, with sequins and a little bling, the clothes I will be showcasing will be nothing over-the-top. I will be doing something that isn’t typically the Asmita Marwa type of clothes, but it will be done in my style.”

The clothes that will be showcased over the weekend will also include garments such as lace and transparent shirts, which will have contrasting black bras underneath. “These will basically have elements from here and there, but eventually, it will reflect my own take and sensibilities,” explains Asmita.

The designer believes that fashion is personal for her and her clothes have to reflect that. “I would never design what I wouldn’t wear. If I am someone who wears a lot of crushed cottons, which may make me seem chilled out, I wouldn’t hesitate about putting on something glam for a party,” says Asmita, whose clothes depict her personality, she maintains.

The designer loves the Bangalore crowd, where she’s quite familiar with many faces. “Bangalore, Hyderabad and Kolkata are the emerging markets for fashion. These cities show great business possibilities for designers and it is hard for us to keep these cities off our radar. This is one of the reasons why I am back again in this city, showcasing my creations after last year,” states Asmita.

While Asmita has showcased across different fashion weeks and does private shows, she says that she always maintains a certain limit as far as the work she takes on goes. “I don’t believe in selling my soul to the devil. While I like to be busy, I also require that little time to myself. I would never take on too much on my plate. I have my own life and I need that space and time,” says she.

Asmita also has her own take when it comes to being part of different shows. “I was part of the Hyderabad Fashion Week last year, but I chose not to be on board this year. I am selective when it comes to taking on work. I don’t want to dilute my brand,” the designer signs off.
