It’s not just about the fabulous colours and textures that make the Blenders Pride Bangalore Fashion Week one of the most talked about events in the city. Relentless hard work put in by those behind the scenes adds to the appeal of the whole extravaganza.

Take the choreographers for instance; they have been working round the clock to prep everyone who’s involved in the show, looking beyond the glamour and starry tantrums. “The fashion week has given me an opportunity to work with the likes of Rocky S, Narendra Kumar and this year, Ritu Beri, and that’s what keeps me going,” says Sheetal Sharma. What also works for Sheetal is that she has now familiarised herself with the team and the models. “When a bunch of people whom you know get together, there is no scope for friction,” she reasons. She also adds that the fact that she gets to choreograph the finale that everyone looks forward to, makes her neglect the stress.

Rahul Dev Shetty says that it’s good for something as hectic as this to happen every now and then! “This rush of adrenaline is good. The venue is awesome and it feels great as the fashion week is taking place in my city. And this year, we’re also coming up with our own music; it should be quite exciting,” he says.
M S Sridhar also says he has enjoyed putting the show together. “We don’t limit ourselves to getting just the entries and exits of the models right, but also give inputs on styling, fitting, make up and accessories,” he says, adding that the four days can get quite stressful. “Rehearsals start at 8am and there is hardly any time to even grab a bite. Each of us has been assigned eight designers, so you can imagine the stress levels!” he says. Sridhar is doing the choreography for Prabhat Kumar, the only accessory designer this year. The collection will carry a black magic theme and Sridhar is considering giving a spooky effect to the ramp and the backdrop. He has planned on a dramatic entry for Ramesh Dembla’s show as well. “We will play around with the lighting,” is all that he is ready to reveal at this point.

Talking of sets and lighting, innovative ramps will be the order of the day in this year’s edition too. If Ramesh Dembla’s show will have red shimmer for a backdrop, Swapnil Shinde’s futuristic clothing will be paraded on a grey and white runway with tube lights in the middle. For Archana Kochhar’s show, sunrise will be the backdrop and sand prints will be put on the runaway to make it look like the models are walking on sand. Ritu Beri’s show will come with a golden forest theme. The side wings and runway will carry depictions of golden-coloured tress. It will also be made to look like golden leaves have fallen on the ramp,” says Nisar, who’s responsible for the sets for BFW.

International designers will get to showcase their collection on equally creative sets. Daniel Hechter will have the Eiffel Tower for a backdrop. Blue, red and white have been used for the runway. Bozena Carter’s runway will have burgundy, pink and red faux fur to complement the faux fur in her collection. Leopard prints will dominate the backdrop and runway set for Tanzania’s Mustafa Hassan Ali. Green will feature on the runway during Pamela and Archana’s show as their collection has peacock colours.

So, with the stage set and the action ready to unfold, get ready to celebrate fashion over the next four days.
