On the occasion of renowned poet Rabindranath Tagore’s 150th birth anniversary, a tribute to the legendary man was organised with a world-class performance by the well-known contemporary dancer, Astad Deboo on November 26.

Deboo showcased a fusion of Indian classical and western contemporary dance that beautifully interpreted the Nobel laureate’s works at Taj President. Deboo performed to some of Tagore’s most famous poems namely, Akla Cholo, Your Grace and Every Fragment of Dust is Awakened. A completely refreshed piece comprising of four parts enthralled the audience amidst an evening that truly celebrated India’s heritage in art and culture.

This time, Deboo was joined in his performance by children from Salaam Balak Trust, an NGO supported by him. He has been mentoring street children from the trust for the past three years and believed some of them had progressed enough to take the leap into his work.

Speaking on the occasion, Pankaj Sampat, General Manager of Vivanta by Taj President, said, “I was delighted to host Astad Deboo. The fusion of Indian classical and western contemporary dance marvelled the guests and seamlessly reflected our core values of creativity, radiance and vibrancy. It is our endeavour to partner with contemporary and vivacious initiatives that embody our distinctive values and image.”

The cultural event also saw several personalities from the world of media, art and business rubbing shoulders.
