Tattoos sported by Bollywood celebrities like Sushmita Sen, Koena Mitra, Saif Ali Khan, Malaika Arora Khan and Eesha Deol have been a rage in the past. And to add to the fast gaining hype and attention that inking the body is receiving of late, comes what is touted to be probably one of the country’s first ever tattoo convention.

The Indian Ink Tattoo Convention, being held in the city, has some of the biggest names in the business attending the event to share their knowledge and learning more about latest tattoo trends at the same time.

One such attendant is Al Alva, a popular city-based tattoo artist, who is in full favour of such a convention and says that such an initiative will help members of the fraternity know each other better. “Once we come together, we can share shading techniques, styles and designs that each one is well-versed in and brush up a bit on the history of tattoo too,” smiles Al.

Another popular tattoo artist, Ben Irani says that this initiative is welcome because it will encourage the art. “With this convention taking place the awareness of professional tattoo artists in the city will bridge the gap between scepticism from people getting tattoos done,” says Ben. Ask him if there is any specific tattoo trend that he wishes to learn more about at this convention and he replies in the negative. “I don’t think people follow any trend. In any case, people prefer to get tattoos done from their heart and don’t follow trends per se,” he muses.

But Al, apart from sharing his knowledge on tattoos, says that he definitely wishes to learn more about the technique of ‘bamboo tattoo’. I’m doing it for the first time!” he says. Well, let’s wait and watch which B-towner adopts this tattoo technique now.
