With a visible shift towards the classy casual ensemble, men’s wear has definitely seen a change from the much-loved denims, to the chic and well tailored shorts that offer great style options, to the fashion forward man. Designer labels like Armani, H&M and Moschino have been sending out beautifully tailored and coloured shorts on the runway in bold statement shades, pastels and interesting patterns, which can be adapted and incorporated with versatility. Fashion designer, Lokesh Ahuja points out that the length and fit, plays a great role in finding the perfect pair of shorts.
“Men need to be careful about how long or short a pair of shorts is, because too small doesn’t look good. Tailored shorts should be well fitted and not baggy or slouchy, which can make them look terrible.” Shorts also can be paired well with different accessories, from a cool pair of sneakers to the laid-back flip flops and even loafers. “I would suggest a nice cotton jacket or T-shirt when wearing it with flip flops or sneakers for a smart casual day look,” offers Lokesh, adding that shorts should be avoided for a night out ensemble. To pull off a smart relaxed and casual look, one should use key pieces such as linen jackets and shirts. Bold coloured shorts in deep blues, whites and pastels can help make a style statement, suggest fashion experts. For those not sure enough to carry bright colours can opt for muted shades like navy or black and pair them with a well-fitted t-shirt.
Men’s wear designer Paresh Lamba cautions that one has to be careful about the body structure, when choosing the right pair of shorts to wear. “One has to be very careful about the body type, especially when choosing to wear tailored shorts. One needs to have great calves and thighs to carry these off.” Men with skinny legs should choose shorts with bold patterns, as this gives the illusion of bulkier legs, he suggests. And though summer is slowly creeping up, one must avoid geometric patters and floral prints, unless sunbathing at a beach, add fashion experts.
