It’s International Tea Day today, and to honour the occasion, we dug up details on your favourite fictional characters who swear by the healing powers of that piping hot cup of tea. From The Big Bang Theory’s Sheldon Cooper’s love for camomile tea to Fifty Shades of Grey’s Anastasia Steele who can’t get enough of English Breakfast tea. It’s brewing hot aroma is hard to resist. No wonder these characters find it hard to say no to that cuppa.
Even to have the courage to boldly go where no one has gone before, one needs a special kind of brew. For captain Jean Luc Picard from the Star Trek series, it’s a cup of Earl Grey tea, which he orders in his unique style from a replicator in his ready room with the phrase, “Tea, Earl Grey, hot.”
In the words of Mentalist Patrick Jane, “Tea is a hug in a cup.” And who are we to argue with that statement?” Jane clearly, needs that embrace when he meets his nemesis Red Jon in the season 3 finale (or atleast thinks he does), kills him and then goes on to down a cup of tea like nothing happened. And his pick is none other than Lapsang Souchong, which also happens to be Sherlock’s favourite tea.
It’s the elixir of life that The Big Bang Theory’s Sheldon Cooper swears by. When stressed out or in a sour mood, Sheldon relies on the magical powers of camomile to soothe his frayed nerves and calm him down, working its magic and relaxing him.
This world renowned literary detective has an edge because of his crime-solving abilities. Moving on from one case to another, apart from his strong friendship with Watson, Sherlock relies on a special potent liquid — a fresh cup of Lapsang Souchong tea. It’s strong, black, bold and beautiful. A perfect fit for the sleuth who likes his tea strong and cases complicated.
While most college students are into experimenting with other potent alcoholic spirits, Fifty Shades Of Grey’s Anastasia aka Anna Steele’s pick is English Breakfast tea. An instant-pick-me-up, it gives her that extra boost of energy she needs go through her daily routine.
