'Doot' has a message, launches its 100th edition in Ahmedabad

'Doot' the second ever Gujarati magazine after Buddhiprakash to achieve the centennial milestone in publishing launched its 100th edition on Sunday.

'Doot' — a Gujarati Catholic monthly periodical that completed a century of uninterrupted publishing — caters to the Catholic community across the state.

It also has readers in the US, Canada, UK and Africa.
The magazine which initially cost just two paisa now costs Rs100 and has gone from a seven pages to 48. It has around 5,000 subscribers.    

Members of Doot are planning a series of celebrations beginning from Ahmedabad and will take it to Rajkot, Gandhinagar, Vyara and finally culminating at Anand in January 2011.

 "It is a great joyous moment for the people of Gujarat. Even after so many years, the magazine never faced any opposition even during times of strife," said father Cedric Prakash.

The first edition of Doot was published in January 1911 by the Examiner Press, Mumbai. Later after 1926 onwards it was printed at Anand press in Anand by Gujarati Sahitya Prakash.  "Doot incorporates the entire Indian society and has been publishing articles dealing with spread of education, development of family and society at large," said Prakash.
