For many of us, the very end of Christmas and New Year festivities spells an imminent end to sparkle and shimmer dressing. Sequinned numbers, lamé separates and velvet pieces, which were your trusty companions at beach parties, go out of the closet and organic, anti-fit pieces start making their presence felt. However, one needn’t stop sparkling yet just because parties are over.

With disco being the major trend for 2018, it won’t be a faux pas to warm up to holographic separates and iridescent accessories in January, which is usually synonymous with a relaxed and laid-back approach to dressing. There’s not one label — be it luxury or high street — which hasn’t toyed with luminosity this season.

On one end of the spectrum, there are Paco Rabanne’s chain mail dresses, Monisha Jaising’s metallic jackets and Falguni & Shane Peacock’s disco diva numbers and on another end, there are lustrous options from Love Gen, ZARA and ASOS. Designers across the board have offered myriad beaded options, which will be your failproof bet as you resume work, take charge of life in 2018 and settle back into the everyday grind. However, the trick is to balance out the shine with neutral and monochrome basics. We get experts to help you nail the look...

LAYER WITH A GLITTERY BOMBER OR A STATEMENT SCARF

Wearing shine and bling does not only have to be limited to the party holiday season as Spring Summer 2018 is all about dazzle. Dolly Sidhwani, Co-Founder of LoveGen, is on board with the idea of shining in the New Year. “For a semi-casual look, team your shirt dress or denim with a pair of sparkly sneakers. With the winters here, a sequinned bomber jacket or sparkly scarf is another way to incorporate your holiday bling. You can always add some shine in the form of your accessories like a metallic bag and a pair of sparkly shoes,” says Dolly.

DRESS IT DOWN

The trick is to keep one item dressy while the rest chic and simple. As they often say, 'less is more'. Designer Nandita Mahtani suggests, “Dress it down, a shimmery top can be worn with jeans and simple sandals for a dinner or movie night. Sequins don’t always have to be over the top. Fashion is all about how to style a piece of clothing.”

HAVE A RELAXED APPROACH

One’s go-to-label could be Amoh’s which has come out with a comfortable-yet-festive line. Designer Monica Shah of Amoh by JADE says, “It has a more pared-down approach to festive fabrics but looks super chic and trendy. A nifty tunic or a set of palazzos can go a long way. A pair of pointy heels will really add to the polish. Jumpsuits are my personal favourite for post-hols phase. They’re comfortable, chic and help me get through the day. If you’re going out on a date, think twice about the impression you’d make. A dressy peplum jacket may come in handy at this point.”

Alternatively, bodysuits add instant glam and a dash of winter-chic charm to any look. “If you are a bold and confident dresser, embroidered corsets are the perfect way to dress up for dinners,” adds Monica.
