Rajasthan, which houses centuries old heritage buildings and monuments, has notched up an important place in global tourism. Lakhs of tourists annually visit its known heritage buildings famous for unique sculpture, which is a great source to boost state’s revenue along with employment generation. As these heritage sites are no more hidden treasures, the Raje government is now focusing on unexplored destinations that speak of cultural heritage in small villages of the state. To promote tourism at these sites located in rural belts, the state government has come up with a plan which will not only provide tourists new destinations, but would increase employments in the villages.

In a latest circular, the Panchayati Raj department has instructed all Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Zila Parishad to list heritage buildings, monuments located in the villages and small hamlets of the state and place their notice board at all the state and national highways passing through the state. The aim is, whenever tourists pass through the highways, he or she should feel tempted to visit the place.

The focus is also on making the boards appear attractive detailing information of the monuments so that the tourists can understand them easily and visit the places. A photo of the place must be carried on such boards, said the order issued by the department secretary Kunjilal Meena to all CEOs of Zila Parishad.

“The tourism industry is rapidly growing in the state, hence not only in urban areas, but in rural areas as well it becomes necessary to promote tourist activities. This will help provide employment in rural areas. The notice boards of the local monuments should be placed on the highways that can attract tourists and make them visit the place,” said the order issued by Meena. He also sought a compliance report from the CEOs in regard to the order.
