Famous as the Salt Lake all over the world, Sambhar Lake soon will be the world’s first salt tourism site. Under the Swadesh Darshan Scheme of the Union ministry, dozens of projects have been prepared keeping in mind the tourists along with development of the lake. Here, the visitors will get to enjoy an attractive heritage train ride along with the view of national and international birds beside the salt lake.

Realising the immense potential of tourism at the famous Sambhar Lake, the central ministry had approved the scheme of Rs 64 crore under Swadesh Darshan Scheme for the development of major religious places and tourist centres. Under it, work on nearly dozens of projects, including Sambhar circuit house and lake area, going on for the past two years has been almost completed.

According to the sources, Union tourism minister KJ Alphons and chief minister Vasundhara Raje are likely to inaugurate these tourism works this month. A beautiful caravan park has been built in the area in addition to a ground to organise fairs and festivals for tourists, along with tourist information centre, open air theatre, bird watching centre, cultural centre, shopping palace and food palace.

Also, a 6-kilometre long cycle track has also been built around the lake along with a water ditch for boating. The tourists will be able to visit Devyani and Shakambhari Mata temples. A 10-kilometre long railway track has also been built in the lake for tourists where the train will be seen donning a heritage look of metre gauge.

With this development, it seems Sambhar will now be popular for tourism and not for salt. By merging the old heritage with new art, the focus is on giving tourists an experience of a lifetime.
