Campaigns launched by Rajasthan government for water, forest conservation would preserve environment for a long time and they would also emerge as precedents for the world to learn in this direction, stated Union forest and environment minister Harsh Vardhan on Monday.

He applauded the efforts of the government while sharing dais with chief minister Vasundhara Raje at the 68th state level Van Mahotsav which was celebrated in Govindpura Beed

Raje, meanwhile, stated that now the time has arrived to work on bringing ‘Forest Revolution’ in the state after ‘Jal Kranti’ which is happening after successful implementation with Mukyamantri Jal Swavlamban Abhiyaan (MJSA).

“To preserve our environment, the need of the hour is that each citizen connects with the campaign. We had decided to plant 60 lakh saplings in the second phase of MJSA, and now under Van Mahotsav, 15 lakh saplings are targeted to be planted at block, panchayat and district level across the state,” said Raje

Citing outcome of MJSA in Sirohi Kala (Dudu) and Sanwari Kala (Phagi), the CM said that production of gram has doubled in these areas with a proper supply of water. “In these villages, one harvesting per year was witnessed so far and now it has got doubled,” said Raje, adding that 12,000 villages are targeted to be covered under the campaign in three years since the launching of the drive and hopefully, the entire state will be covered in coming years.

MJSA, described as the country’s largest campaign of its kind towards water harvesting and conservation in rural areas, was launched by Raje in January 2016.

The campaign aims at benefitting 21,000 villages by 2020. When the Union minister came to address the gathering, he applauded Rajasthan government’s initiatives in the direction of water conservation. The minister said that it is commendable that government used Geo-tagging to monitor saplings planted under the drive.
