More than 60 films from 19 countries will be screened at the 1st International Film Festival of Sriganganagar (IFFS). Punjabi film ‘Chamm’ will be the opening film of the maiden edition of IFFS, which is going to be organised between January 19-23 in Srigangangar.

Chamm’ will be screened on January 19 under ‘non-competition category’, after the opening ceremony of the festival. The film of national award winner director Rajeev Kumar was earlier screened at Cannes Film Festival last year. As per organisers, director Rajeev and team will be present during the special screening of the film.

“Sriganganagar has an identity of agriculture region of Rajasthan and what could be a better start of the 1st edition of the IFFS with a film like ‘Chamm’ which is based on farmers and agriculture,” renowned writer, lyricist & founder director of IFFS Dr Dushyant said. “The 99-minute duration film, though, is based on the story of farmers in Punjab, it depicts farmers’ struggle with the odds they are cursed to face across the country without any limitation of state or region boundaries,” he added.

‘Spring Thunder’ will be the last film to be screened at the festival on January 23. Sriram Dalton has won the best director award at Bay Area South Asian Film Festival in California for the film. Based on the backdrop of uranium mining in Jharkhand, the film shows the struggle between sustainability and development in rural India.

“We had received 165 films from 38 countries and out of those 62 films have been selected by a 9-member jury for the screening during the festival,” said Dr Dushyant .

This is the first time in Rajasthan when such a film festival with international films and participants from across the globe is going to be organised other than the state capital. During the five-day event budding film-makers would get a chance to learn from renowned film makers about film making in a workshop and a seminar on documentary film making selected by a 9-member jury for the screening during the festival,” said Dr Dushyant .
