BJP had launched mega membership drive through ‘Missed Call’ and became the world’s largest political party. Now, Congress is also on a membership drive through ‘contact initiative’ programme called ‘Shakti’.
Congress president Rahul Gandhi has started interacting with members on phone who have enrolled for ‘Shakti’, said Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee (RPCC) chief Sachin Pilot, claiming two lakh members have registered under the initiative so far in Rajasthan.
“People with great zeal and enthusiasm are connecting with Shakti and nearly 2 lakh in Rajasthan enrolled so far. Recently, the party president Rahul Gandhi had dialogues with many members. The programme will be continued to enroll workers at booth level,” said Pilot in a statement released on Wednesday.
The brainchild of Gandhi, Shakti project was launched by Pilot on March 8. Pilot became first leader to enroll under the new project. The aim of the initiative is to create solid party cadres ahead of assembly election.
Any party member or leader or a person wishing to join party may send his voter ID to moble no.7045003900 to enroll in the programme. A technical team sitting in New Delhi will verify the sender and later will add him into data base.
Post verification. the enrolled person can send his suggestion to the party. Gandhi interacts selected new members.

The party leaders, however, argue that BJP’s missed call membership programme is farce with false achievements and the party used money and power to increase party membership while Shakti works with proper authentication and connects with the people who have strong belief in party’s ideology.
Meanwhile, Pilot urged party workers, who will attend a rally in Ramlina Maidan, New Delhi, on April 29, to bring voter IDs so they could be connected with Shakti there.
