Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat was screened for the first time in Rajasthan on Monday night when the single bench of Justice Sandeep Mehta of Rajasthan High Court watched the film at the Satyam Multiplexes INOX amid tight security arrangements.

The special screening was held so that Justice Mehta could assess whether the public sentiments are hurt by tampering with history in the movie. On this basis, a decision will be made about the cancellation of FIRs lodged against film producers and artists on Tuesday.

Justice Mehta and four staff members of the registrar and judiciary watched the film while around 300 police personnel were present for the security arrangement. The film was screened with a special password given by the producer of the film at 8 o’clock at the Inox Cinema hall. Even before the show, 10 police officers and nearly 150  policemen were providing the security cover under the supervision of ADCP east Anant Kumar. Also present were Commisisoner Ashok Rathore, DCP Amandeep Singh. Meanwhile, IPS officer Pooja Yadav took over the responsibility of security along with the heavy police around the High Court Road. Besides, the mobile teams of eight police stations were also keeping an eye on the surrounding area and strict security arrangements were made outside the cinema hall.

It is worth mentioning that after watching Padmaavat’s promo last year, a person named Virendra Singh in Nagaur district had lodged a case against director Bhansali, film stars (Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone) for hurting religious and social sentiments. After this, an appeal has been made in the Rajasthan High Court on behalf of Bhansali, Deepika and Ranveer Singh to cancel the FIR. During the hearing on Friday, Justice Mehta had said that the court cannot decide on it without watching the film. After this, the court ordered the film director to arrange a special screening of Padmaavat.

Karni Sena is also keeping an eye on the verdict of high court. National President and patron of Shri Rajput Karni Sena, Lokendra Singh Kalvi will reach Jodhpur from Jaipur on Tuesday.
