Gross negligence allegedly on the part of a private hospital resulted in the death of a two-day-old infant at the hospital’s phototherapy unit in Kota. The family has accused the hospital staff of forgetting to take the baby out from the unit.

According to sources, a woman named Sangeeta wife of one Dinesh Sahu of Cantonment Ramchandra Pura area had given birth to twin babies. Sangeeta was admitted for delivery on June 28 and the family was extremely happy when she gave birth to twins - a boy and a girl. The condition of both the infants at the time of birth was fine, but the doctors told the family that condition of one of the infant was bad and so they kept her in the warmer (photo therapy), said Sahu.

Sahu in his complaint said that the hospital staff forgot the infant in the warmer. This burnt her skin due to which she died. The family alleged that by keeping the new-born in warmer for two days, her skin got burnt.

The family members have lodged a complaint against the hospital at Dadabari police station, but the case was not registered so, the application was further forwarded to Kota SP.

Samir Dube, Additional SP Kota, admitted that he has received a complaint but said, “After thorough examination of the facts we will proceed further.”

According to the information, Dinesh Sahu has accused Dr. Avinash Bansal, the staff and physician of the Bharat Vikas Parishad Hospital located at Dadabari Pratap Nagar in Kota of negligence.

The newborn died on June 30 and the hospital staff gave the infant’s body on July 1 morning. When the doctor and staff were asked about the death, they stated that she had a hole in her heart and was very weak, which led to her death.
