Former chief minister and AICC general secretary Ashok Gehlot took potshots at the Vasundhara Raje government in the state saying that the law and order situation is at its worst and cases of molestation are at their peak.

“It is a matter of concern that over 10 incidents of molestation get registered in Rajasthan every day. When Congress was in power, Raje, as opposition leader, criticised the poor law and order situation and demanded that the Congress government quit. Will she follow her word as the cases of molestation are on rise drastically,” said Gehlot.

The ex-CM based his allegations on a quarterly report which mentions 183 molestation cases in Jaipur in 90 days while in Rajasthan nearly 966 cases were registered with an average of over 10 per day.

“The police has lost its credibility in the state. The home minister boasts that his department works, but sadly no one hears what he says. Even the CM is insensitive as she talks about women empowerment but fails to protect women,” said Gehlot.

The government, in its recent budget session, passed a bill which mandates capital punishment for those who rape girls below 12.

“The government just ended its duty by passing the bill but there is no law and order in Rajasthan,” said Gehlot.
