An immediate need to prepare NRC for Rajasthan: Narpat Singh Rajvi

Rajasthan government is apparently not keen to find out the number of illegal foreign nationals, especially Rohingyas, residing in the state. While the union government has declared its intent to identify and deport the illegal Rohingyas, Rajasthan police has prepared a sketchy report. The figures collected by the police are refuted by both activists and legislators. If the database is to be believed, there are just 328 Rohingyas in Rajasthan. 320 in Jaipur and 8 in Ajmer. “The MHA had sought the information and we had asked police identify their location. They are in Sodala and Harmada areas. The figure we got was 328 in Jaipur and Ajmer. As per the report we have received, they are not living in other cities,” said Rajesh Meena, SP Security.

But there are no buyers for these numbers. Narpat Singh Rajvi, the BJP MLA from Vidhyadhar Nagar said, “They are present in larger numbers than police claims. I have on two occasions told Jaipur police commissioner to identify the people living in slums and shanties on both sides of the Jaipur military area. There are many illegal immigrants among them. This will pose a security hazard.” “There is immediate need to prepare national register of citizens (NRC) for Rajasthan. The total tally of illegal residents, from Bangladeshis to Rohingyas and Nepalis would be as high as 15 lakh,” Rajvi claimed.

According to social activist Vijay Goyal of Resource Institute for Human Rights “There are at least 1500 Rohingyas living in Jaipur and Ajmer alone. I know for sure as I have struggled to get their children admitted to schools.

The men are rag pickers while a lot of their women are involved in prostitution.”  “They are scattered in many other cities too, but in smaller numbers,” Goyal added.

According to a senior official who did not wish to be named, “Illegal immigrants live concealed within bastis dominated by minorities. They are marrying locals and gaining their support to obtain identity proofs.”
