14 people test positive with swine flu in Kota, 2 dead so far

H1N1 virus has so far claimed lives of two persons in Kota district while at least 14 persons have been tested positive with swine flu.

Medical and health department in Kota on Thursday further swung into action after an 18-year-old NEET aspirant from Jodhpur, taking coaching in an institute was tested positive with H1N1 virus. The medial teams carried out survey, screening and distribution of preventive medicines in the affected area of the city. H1N1 virus has so far claimed lives of two persons in Kota district while at least 14 persons have been tested positive with swine flu.  

A 70-year-old woman identified as Kantibai, a resident of Digod village of Kota district was tested positive with swine flu and was undergoing medical treatment at Maharao Bhim Singh [MBS] hospital, told an official at MBS hospital. The woman died during treatment at hospital on Wednesday, he added.    Earlier, another woman identified as Lalita Mathur, 70 and a resident of Borekheda area of Kota city, who undergoing medical treatment with tested swine flu positive, died during the treatment on January 5, the official said.  

Satyapal (18), a resident of Jodhpur district, currently taking coaching for NEET in Kota was tested positive with H1N1 virus, the medical official told. The infected NEET aspirant was staying in Talwandi area and following his testing positive with swine flu, medical teams were rushed to Talwandi area and the institute where he was taking coaching to carry out the survey and screening of suspects of H1N1 virus, the medical officer said.    

At least 59 samples have been collected for swine flu test since January 1 and 14 persons have so far been tested positive with H1N1 virus, epidemiologist at MBS hospital Dr Vinod Prabhakar told. Swine flu has claimed lives of two persons in Kota district so far this month, he further said.

The medical teams have been carrying out five rounds of survey and screening in the affected area of swine flu consequently no linked case of swine flu has surfaced so far in Kota district, Dr Vinod Prabhakar said.  Most of the patients tested with swine flu positive were found to be having a traveling history, he said. Besides OPD screening of the suspected patients at CHC, PHC and district hospital, door to door survey and screening is also being carried out to check the spread of the virus, he further said.  

CMHO Dr RK Lawaniya and superintendent of MBS hospital Dr Naveen Saxena were engaged in meetings and could not attend the repeated calls for their version on swine flu.  Meanwhile, amid rising cases of swine flu in Hadouti region, medical and health department has sounded alert in Bundi district.

The Survey

The medical teams have been carrying out five rounds of survey and screening in the affected area of swine flu consequently no linked case of swine flu has surfaced so far in Kota district, Dr Vinod Prabhakar said.  Most of the patients tested with swine flu positive were found to be having a traveling history, he said.
