Javed Mirza, a scrap dealer in Juhapura alleges that the Ponzi operator has threatened to kill him if he doesn't withdraw the complaint.
The man who lodged a formal complaint against scamster Zaheer Rana on Monday alleged on Tuesday that the Ponzi operator has threatened to kill him if he doesn't withdraw the complaint.
According to Javed Mirza, a scrap dealer in Juhapura, he received a call from Rana at 2:17pm on Tuesday.
"He asked me to arrive at a settlement and withdraw my complaint as it will adversely affect his bail granted by Supreme Court in Remo Marketing episode. When I refused to accept his offer, he threatened to kill me," said Mirza in his application with Navrangpura police.
Mirza on Monday had filed an FIR with Navrangpura police against Rana for allegedly cheating him of Rs36.50 lakh, invested in a land-plotting scheme near Nal Sarovar. The Ponzi land scheme was promoted by Rana. The Ponzister is currently on the run.
In his complaint, Mirza alleged that Rana told him to invest in his scheme, which would yield him huge benefits in the future. He, however, didn't receive any plot. According to Mirza, he came in contact with Rana one year ago, when Rana won his confidence and duped him of his cash.
"He knows that I have filed an FIR. He called me on Tuesday but handed over the phone to his friend John aka Marathe, who told me that if anything happens to Rana, I will have to pay for it with my life. John claimed to be a professional sharpshooter. He also said that I'll be killed by him before Supreme Court cancels bail granted to him in the previous case," said Mirza.
Navrangpura police, meanwhile, have learned some more facts about Rana's multi-level marketing fraud. Before starting Dorado Marketing Pvt Ltd in Ahmedabad, Rana in 2007 had started a similar firm in Mumbai after he was granted bail in the Remo Marketing case.
The company, called Suvidha Marketing, had its offices in Malad (west) area in suburban Mumbai.
