The Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) today lodged an FIR against BJP MP Yashwant Sinha and 32 others alleging that they held its General Manager Prabhakar Chaki 'captive' for six hours, the police said today.

Former union ministers Yashwant Sinha and Kumar Mahesh Singh and 30 others were charged in the complaint with keeping captive the GM (CCL’s Hazaribagh Area) and other employees of the company for six hours yesterday, Superintendent of Police Pankaj Kamboj said.

The accused were backing Grameen Bisthapit Morcha (GBM) of Phusri village, which had been on a protest in last fortnight against non-fulfillment of its charter of demands, including opening of a new coal dump yard to allow villagers getting benefit from coal sale, Kamboj said.

GBM activists were on an indefinite fast near the GM’s Office at Charhi in support of their demands and ended the hunger strike only on Sinha’s intervention, the SP said.

Chaki had turned down the demand saying CCL did not have any policy to open an additional dump yard as one was already there at Bahera under the same project.

However, refusing to buy the GM’s argument, the employees asked the CCL management to accept the demand by April 9, which led to yesterday’s agitation and subsequent locking up of gates and keeping the GM and 16 others, including women CCL employees captive, the SP said.

Sub-divisional Officer Kumkum Prasad and Additional Superintendent of Police Sudarshan Mandal rushed to Charhi and rescued them, the police officer said.

Altogether 906.41 acre of land was taken by the CCL for its Tapin South Coal Mining project and the company had given jobs to 35 displaced persons.
