Yaseen Malik, Hurriyat leaders detained in Kashmir

Chairman of JKLF Mohammad Yaseen Malik and executive member of moderate Hurriyat Mukhtar Ahmad Waza were among over 24 separatist leaders detained by police today to prevent them from visiting Kulgam district of south Kashmir, officials said.
     
Malik along with six senior party colleagues including vice chairman Bashir Ahmad Bhat were taken into preventive custody at Sangam in Anantnag district when they were on way to Kulgam district, where over 25 persons including 11 security men were injured in a day-long clashes yesterday during the funeral of two militants killed a day earlier.

They said a six-member delegation of moderate faction of Hurriyat led by Waza were detained at Khudwani in Anantnag. 

Another Hurriyat delegation comprising a dozen leaders and activists were stopped by police at Pampore in Pulwama district and later taken into custody after they insisted to visit Kulgam.

The sources said separatists were detained to prevent them from visiting Kulgam district as the authorities apprehended law and order problem in the south Kashmir district which is limping back to normalcy after two days of violent protests.
