Yamuna continued to flow above the danger mark today although the flood-like situation in several low-lying areas along the river improved significantly.

"The water level has come down to 205.82 metres at 8 pm. The river is still flowing 99 cm above the danger mark of 204.83 metres. It is expected to recede further tomorrow," said an official of the flood control department.

Though the water level has come down from yesterday's 206.12 metres, still several low-lying areas along the river remained inundated.

However, the situation in several areas including Usmanpur Pusta, Jagatpur Village and Shastri Nagar and Yamuna Vihar improved marginally.

Officials said some people will be asked to leave the relief camps as and when situation improves in their areas.

Meanwhile, the old Yamuna bridge, which was closed to rail traffic due to the rising water level of the river early this week, was reopened today.

The water level in Yamuna has gone up in the last few days as rain-battered Haryana has been constantly releasing huge quantity of water from Hathinikund barrage. The neighbouring state today released another 83,000 cusecs of water.

The water level in Yamuna had crossed the 207-metre mark for first time in 32 years on Wednesday submerging several areas including Garhi Mandu, Usmanpur Pusta, Jagatpur Village and Shastri Nagar, Yamuna Vihar, Madanpur, Sonia Vihar, Nigambodh, Jaitpur, Tibet Market and Yamuna Bazar.
