Woman shot inside her shop in Delhi

Police suspect personal enmity to be behind the incident as the attackers did not take anything from the shop.

A 40-year-old woman shopkeeper was shot at and injured by two unknown motorcyclists in Outer Delhi this morning, the police said.

The incident took place in Rohini at around 8 am and the victim has been identified as Sumitra, whose husband is a doctor. She is undergoing treatment at Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital, a senior police officer said.

Sumitra runs a grocery shop in her residence and this morning, two persons came to her shop and asked for a cigarette.

"When she was giving the cigarette, one of the motorcyclists pulled out a country-made pistol and shot at her, hitting her stomach," the official said.

Police suspect personal enmity to be behind the incident as the attackers did not take anything from the shop.

A case has been registered.
