Woman sets self, daughter ablaze, die

Worries about the future of her three-year old deaf & dumb daughter, led a woman to set herself and the child, on fire. Both succumbed to burn injuries. According to information, Kajal Sanani, 24, a resident of Rang Avdhoot society, Lambe Hanuman road, doused kerosene on herself and her daughter Priyanshi, before setting themselves ablaze, at 8.30 am on Monday.

Both mother and daughter sustained grievous burn injuries. They were rushed to SMIMER hospital by the 108 emergency service. However, it was too late for Kajal, as she was declared dead over arrival by the doctors. The child Priyanshi was admitted in burns ward of the hospital, but she was also declared dead after brief treatment. Sources said that Priyanshi was deaf & dumb, and Kajal was very worried about her child’s future. It was the worries over Priyanshi that drove Kajal to take the extreme step.

However, Varachha police said that it was not a suicide case, and that the mother and daughter had sustained injuries accidentally. The police are investigating the case.
