A naked body of a 35-year-old woman was found at a guest house in Karanj late on Tuesday night. According to a source in the police, the body was found by the guest house authorities when they were checking rooms to see if the taps were left running.

The victim, Madhuben Pandya, a resident of sector 27 of Gandhinagar, was found in the bathroom of room number 103 of the guest house. The source said that the room was booked by a man on the name Virednrasinh M. The man left the room to get some food, but did not return to the guest house. As soon as the authorities found the dead body they informed the Karanj police about it. The police reached the spot, and during investigation found a SIM card and 2 bus tickets from the purse of the woman.

The police activated the SIM card and when it dialled a number a boy, who called himself Raja, picked up the phone. Raja told the police that the woman was his mother and she had left home at around 10:30 pm to sell papads, a business she was engaged in.

The source said that the room was booked under a fake address, that of Tripada society in Dhanduka. "It's a case of murder. We have booked Virendrasinh M in the case, but we doubt if this is a case of a love affair," Karanj police station PI KS Savani told DNA.

The body was found lying face down in the bathroom. Police officials suspect that the head of the woman was brutally pushed against the wall. She was strangulated with a wash basin pipe. The reason of the murder is yet to be ascertained, said the source.
