Soon after Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav accepted his resignation from all party posts, Amar Singh said he was grateful to the former and would continue to work as his "committed soldier" till he was allowed to do so.

"I am thankful to Mulayam Singh Yadav for appreciating my need to take rest considering my poor health....I will always remain a committed soldier of Mulayam Singh to the best of my ability till he allows me to do so," Amar Singh told PTI.

Singh, who is in Mumbai campaigning for SP leader Abu Azmi's son Farhan for the forthcoming Assembly by-election to Bhiwandi, said he had received intimation of the acceptance of his resignation through a fax sent to him.

He said he had no conversation with the SP chief just before or after his resignation was accepted.

Singh, who will continue as an ordinary member of SP and also as a Rajya Sabha member, however, expressed his ire at the behaviour of some of his party colleagues during the crisis.

"It saddens me that some of my senior party colleagues criticised me when they should have lent me their sympathy, especially when I was unwell," Amar Singh said.

Asking his supporters not to get restive, he said "My supporters should not have any misunderstanding about my decision to resign as it was on my own call."
