Over 30 years and three generations after Morarji Desai broke the political hegemony of the Gandhi family as head of the nation in Independent India, his great grandson Madhukeshwar seems poised for a political launch from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

It might give veterans déjà vu of sorts as the Desai progeny appears keen to taken on the Congress and its dynastic politics. It however remains to be seen whether he will be able to make a mark in BJP's hardnosed politics and politicos.

After Desai accompanied LK Advani through most of the 38-day Jan Chetna Yatra last year, the BJP patriarch and Gandhinagar MP will now visit Valsad on Wednesday to mark the 116th birth anniversary of Morarji.

Sources confided Advani changed his campaigning schedule in Uttar Pradesh to attend the function in Valsad. Since July 2011, Desai has been in regular touch with Advani.

During the yatra, he worked as a researcher on the issues of black money, corruption and inflation and it is believed his work was used by Advani during his speeches.

The 25-year-old lawyer however remains noncommittal about his political leanings. "I have not joined the BJP and I have no intention of contesting any elections right now. This is an apolitical event, just the celebration of Bapuji's 116th birth anniversary.

I am currently concentrating on building a social base in South Gujarat. I am highly interested in policymaking but policy work without ground knowledge is useless," he says.

It is open to speculation whether his proximity to Advani will mar his chances in Gujarat's politics given Advani's ongoing hostility with Narendra Modi.

Though Modi has written a regret letter informing that he will not be able to attend the event in Valsad due to the ongoing Vidhaan Sabha session, Desai confirms that state president RC Faldu may join.

"Surat MP Darshana Jardosh and CK Patil are also expected and Congress's Valsad MP Kishan Patel may also come for the event," Desai adds.
