Thanks to an errant clerk, the future of nearly 22 students appearing for their boards from Saraswati School, Nikol now hangs in a balance, even when they are fully prepared to meet the board exams head on, staring March 5, 2012. The clerk of the school, Bharat Patel did not forward the exam forms of 18 students from Std X and four students from Std XII to Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) thereby disqualifying them from sitting in the ensuing board exams as their forms have not been received by the Board.

Each of these students had paid Rs1,500 to the clerk in November last year but till date did not receive their exam hall ticket. The incident came to light on Friday when the parents and the students reached the school to get hall tickets.

“As the parents reached there, Patel told them that they do not need receipts as they are old students of the school. When parents enquired further, they learnt that the clerk did not send the forms they had filled up in November last year to the GSHSEB office. Parents felt cheated and started pelting stones at the school,” said police inspector at the Odhav police station, JB Chavda.

While parents felt that Patel acted in such a way out of greed, the trustee of the school Babubhai Patel told DNA that he had forgotten to forward the forms to the board office.

“We are trying to convince the top most officials at the board to save the future of these innocent kids. The process has already started to provide documents and bar code number as we just have Saturday to complete formalities before the board exam starts from Monday,” said the trustee.

The senior officials at GSHSEB, hinting a bleak chance of permission for students said, “We just have one day to complete formalities. The students are repeaters and so it is also important to check their background and other details.” The officials said that they will take action against the school authorities for the negligence, the trustee of the school, said that they have informed the district education officer to take action against the clerk and suspend him from the duty at the school.
