West Bengal and Jharkhand a worry for Operation Green Hunt

Both Jharkhand and West Bengal have emerged as a major worry for the central security forces involved in the Operation Green Hunt due to lack of ground support.

Sources in the anti-Naxal task force, set up by the government involving over 60,000 paramilitary personnel, said while the operation is going on in full swing in Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra, the problem is in Jharkhand and West Bengal.

Sources say the problem aggravates because Jharkhand shares border with four Naxal hit states, Orissa, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh and Bihar. West Bengal in turn shares border with Orissa.

"Even though we are putting in pressure in Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand has now become a loose end and hence Naxals easily enter the state when they are under attack. The same goes for West Bengal," a source said.

They said the operational difficulties in Jharkhand and West Bengal are "procedural" problems even though Jharkhand state police is in action mode. They say the support from the official machinery is less in Jharkhand.
