If an anonymous letter written to the CBI investigating the Sohrabuddin Sheikh case is to be believed, then the man in infamous Sanjay Joshi sex CD is not the RSS pracharak but the gangster gunned down in the fake encounter. The CBI is checking the authenticity of the contents of the letter.

According to sources close to the development, the letter also names some close aides of BJP leaders who are believed to be behind the CD scandal. They said that even though the CBI had not taken cognizance of the letter, it still had not ruled out the possibility of the letter’s connection with Sohrabuddin case.

The letter claims that in the CD the image of Sohrabuddin was morphed into Joshi’s. It alleges that the morphing was done with the help of some close aides of the top partymen.  Before the CBI received the anonymous letter, an accused in the Sohrabuddin case had also told the agency that the man in the CD was not Joshi but Sohrabuddin. Suspended police inspector BK Chaubey, now in Sabarmati jail, had told the agency during an earlier questioning that the CD was made in Gujarat and the man shown in it was Sohrabuddin.

“Chaubey in his statement had told CBI that copies of the CD were distributed in Mumbai in December 2005 by him and his aides at the behest of DG Vanzara, then the head of ATS,’’ the sources said. Chaubey was with Vanzara-led ATS at that time. The CBI had taken Chaubey’s statement seriously and started investigating into the matter. Sources said that the probe agency would try to gather more evidence pointing to Sohrabuddin’s link to the CD.

The CD showing BJP general secretary Sanjay Joshi in a compromising position with a woman had rocked the RSS and the BJP in 2005, particularly at a time when the saffron party was celebrating its silver jubilee. Joshi had to resign from the party post following the controversy. The CD scam was investigated by the Madhya Pradesh police and FSL, which had said that it could not be established if it was Joshi who was shown in the CD. The woman in the CD was believed to be one from north-eastern India, said the investigation.
