Want to be a teacher? Take state TET

Gujarat will not consider CTET, other state TET results for wannabe teachers.

It will now be mandatory to clear Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) conducted by the Gujarat State Examination Board if you wish to be a teacher in Gujarat. A general resolution by the state education department suggests that from now onwards, the board will not consider TET results taken by other states and Central Teachers Eligibility Test for wannabe teachers.

The GR states that candidates wishing to be teachers in Hindi, English and Gujarati medium, will have to clear TET conducted by the Gujarat state exam board. It also states that the candidate who wants to teach in English, Hindi and English medium will have to clear the exam in the respective language.

"For these languages, TET conducted by the Gujarat state exam board will be considered. If the candidate has cleared TET in another state and Central TET conducted by central government, it will not be considered," stated the GR. The state education department further states that the decision was taken keeping mind in eligibility criteria for candidates who wish to be teachers in medium of languages in Urdu, Telugu and Marathi.

"For the candidate wishing to become teacher in languages - Urdu, Telugu and Marathi - he/she will have to clear TET in one of the three languages (Gujarati, Hindi and English). Candidate wanting to become a teacher in a specific medium should have completed study in that medium of language till Std 10," states the GR. For example, if a candidate wants to become teacher of Telugu, he should have studied in Telugu medium till Std X.
For these three languages, Central Teachers Eligibility Test (CTET) in the specific language will also be considered.
