Vohra for strong, competitive, trained professional police

Jammu and Kashmir governor NN Vohra today emphasised on the need for a strong, competitive and highly trained professional police force conversant with local language and culture for ensuring effective internal security management and tackling the terror menace.
    
Vohra said this while delivering a lecture on "Tactical preparedness for counter terrorism" at Udhampur, 65 km from here.
    
The governor also stated the importance of greater synergy and cooperation among the states and the Centre for achieving better results in dealing with terrorism and other day to-day law and order problems.
    
Referring to the Jammu and Kashmir police, the governor said that this force has grown considerably in strength and competence over the past years and is doing a commendable job in dealing with terrorism alongwith the other security forces.
    
Whatever is required to further modernise the state police has to be done regularly and in a time-bound manner, to enable it to meet the emerging challenges, he said.
    
Director general of police (DGP) Kuldeep Khoda said that the graph of terror violence is rapidly coming down in the state and this year, as of now, the drop in such cases is to the extent of 24%.
