VHP opposes demands of granting autonomy to Kashmir

Referring to the prevailing situation in Kashmir valley, VHP leader Aacharya Shree Dharmendra Maharaj blamed Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Mahatma Gandhi for the present state of affair.

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) today vehemently opposed all demands of granting autonomy to the trouble-torn Jammu and Kashmir on religious grounds.
 
"The demands of according autonomy to Jammu and Kashmir on religious grounds is a part of the government's appeasement policy," VHP's international spokesperson Aacharya Shree Dharmendra Maharaj told reporters here.
 
"Why the government was not taking any step to rehabilitate over two lakhs Kashmiri Pandits who were forced to leave their own homes by terrorists? What was their fault?," he said while questioning government's policies.
 
Referring to the prevailing situation in Kashmir valley, the VHP leader blamed Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Mahatma Gandhi for the present state of affair.
 
"For Nehru, his personal friendship was more important than Jammu and Kashmir and the prevailing situation in J&K is the outcome of such approach," he said.
 
Criticising the UPA government for failing to tackle terrorist activities, he alleged that the first prime minister of India, Nehru, had cultivated terrorism for years and the government is now harassing innocent Hindus on the pretext of 'Hindu Terrorism'.
 
To a query about the Ramjanmabhumi issue, he said, "we will accept the Supreme Court verdict on the issue if it is in the favour of majority section of the society".
 
The VHP leader was in the steel city to take part in religious functions and to mobilise support for his proposed historic yatra to Sri Lanka in October.
