The CBI is contemplating a re-look at the Aarushi Talwar murder four days after it filed the closure report in the case, absolving the three ‘suspect’ servants and leaving the needle of suspicion pointing at the girl’s parents.

On Monday, when the court takes up the report for consideration, the agency might appeal to the judge to allow it another chance at cracking the sensational case.

The move follows a meeting of Union law minister M Veerappa Moily with top CBI officials on Sunday. Sources said the agency’s director AP Singh responded favourably to Moily’s concern at the public reaction to the 30-page closure report and suggestion for a review.

“We (government) called for a meeting of the CBI officials and have asked them to have a re-look at the closure report… but we cannot issue directions since the agency is an independent and autonomous body,” Moily said.

Meanwhile, Rebecca John, counsel for the Talwars — dentist couple Rajesh and Nupur, said the suggestion of suing the agency for defamation was “premature”.

“We are asking the court to allow us to examine the closure report and will make the necessary intervention at the appropriate time,” she said. The parents would be filing a one-page application to get a copy of the report. Nupur Talwar, Aarushi’s mother, said the CBI’s observation are a “bundle of false allegations”.
