This story has originated from a posh locality in the city. A story of an educated senior citizen being allegedly assaulted by his son, also an educated man, over property dispute. A complaint filed by Ratilal Patadia, 73, at Vastrapur police station, says he was assaulted by his 37-year-old son Pradeep Patadia on Sunday night. The complaint adds that Pradeep also threatened to kill Ratilal if the dispute was not settled.

While Ratilal, an income-tax advocate, stays in Vastrapur, his son Pradeep, also an advocate, stays in Memnagar.  Pradeep’s elder brother lives in the USA and his three sisters are married off and they live in the city. Ratilal’s wife died a couple of months back.

According to investigating officer and head constable Ramesh Bijal, Pradeep reached Ratilal’s residence in Vastrapur on Sunday night, hurled abuses, assaulted him and even threatened to kill him. The incident occurred around 9:15 pm on Sunday.

The police have registered Ratilal’s complaint and are investigating the matter. Bijal said that Ratilal had reportedly inherited a flat, a piece of land and Rs13 lakh. “Pradeep was regularly harassing him to give his share of the property but Ratilal refused and said that he had already given him his share,’’ Bijal said.

The police investigation also revealed that Ratilal had distributed his property among his children before a few years and he lives alone at his residence. “The entire issue is related to the property that had been inherited by Ratilal.’’ The Vastrapur police have begun investigations and are searching for of Pradeep.
