Uttar Pradesh to launch crackdown against sale of spurious liquor

The Uttar Pradesh government has directed the excise department to launch a crackdown against persons involved in the sale and manufacture of spurious liquor.

The Uttar Pradesh government has directed the excise department to launch a crackdown against persons involved in the sale and manufacture of spurious liquor in the wake of recent deaths due to hooch in the state.

"The excise department should launch a joint drive with police to take effective action against those involved in the trade and manufacture of spurious liquor in the state," excise minister Naseemuddin Siddiqui said.

He said intensive checking should be done to identify and trace people involved in the trade.

Three persons died after consuming spurious liquor in Pratapgarh district on May 5.

Hooch also claimed ten lives in Varanasi and Bhadohi districts last month.
