Accusing the Centre of having a short-sighted vision and wrong import-export policy, the BJP today said the UPA had failed on all fronts including tackling the challenge of price-rise and internal security.

"It is due to the short-sighted vision of the UPA and its wrong import-export policies that prices have soared like never before and there is a shortage of essential goods in the country," BJP president Nitin Gadkari said addressing party workers here today.

The new BJP chief, who was on a two-day visit to the state, also castigated the UPA for allegedly making no sincere effort to strengthen the country's internal security despite repeated attacks by anti national elements.

Calling upon party cadres to work with commitment and dedication, he said they should not run after plum posts in the organisation but work selflessly in the larger interest of the party and the nation.

"I will not contest any election for the period of next three years or as long as I am party president, since I am keen to work whole heartedly for the larger interest of the party and nation", he said.

Holding the UPA wrong import-export policy resoponsible for the rising prices, Gadkari said the Centre did not create buffer stock of sugar, exported 48 lakh tonnes of sugar in 2008 and 2009 at the average price of Rs12.50 per kg leaving the country with no choice but to import raw sugar at Rs36.

"India had double digit inflation in 2008, went into deflation of 1%in August 2009 and now once again in December 2009, inflation has reached 7.31%", he said.
