Two more arrested in Janeshwari Express derailment case

With the arrest of the duo, the total number of people taken into custody so far in this case has gone up to twelve.

Two persons, carrying a reward of Rs50,000 on their head, were today arrested by the CBI in connection with the Janeshwari Express derailment case, taking to 12 the total number of accused nabbed in connection with the disaster.

"The CBI along with Jhargram police has arrested two absconding accused-- Altaf Hossain Saiyed, a resident of Modabandh, Jhargram (West Bengal) and Tapan Mahato, a resident of Akhrasole in the same district, today against whom rewards were announced to the tune of Rs50,000 each in Jnaneshwari Express train case," a CBI spokesperson said.

Both the accused will be produced tomorrow before a designated court, the spokesperson said.

The Mumbai-bound train had derailed on May 28 in the state's West Midnapore district killing 148 people.

With the arrest of the duo, the total number of people taken into custody so far in this case has gone up to twelve.

A joint investigation team (JIT) comprising officers of the CBI, West Bengal Police and Railway Protection Force (RPF), besides an officer of the Railway Board and two Forensic Experts, is probing the case.
