The Sabarmati police have arrested two students of Masters in Computer Applications (MCA), near Subhash Bridge on Sunday, for allegedly stealing two mobile phones from the hostel premises of the college. The police seized two mobiles from them.

The police arrested Hiren Chauhan (22) and Gopal Gamiti (21) . Primary investigations revealed that they had stolen the mobile phones from the hostel campus in Gandhinagar.

Sabarmati police has handed both the miscreants to Sector 7 police station who will continue investigations. Police sub-inspector, Sector 7, police station, RB Vankar, told DNA that three mobiles were stolen from the hostel campus and it is likely they would find one more with them.

Both are students of second year MCA in National Institute of Co-Operative Management (NICM). The police sub-inspector who nabbed the miscreants, PS Dabhi said the two were not inmates of the hostel but visited it quite often.

Police sources said they were doing this for a lavish lifestyle. "We have seized a Nokia phone worth Rs4000 and a Motorola phone worth Rs2000 from them," Dabhi said.

Another police source said they had prior information about the duo stealing the mobiles from the hostel and they were nabbed on the basis of a tip-off.

Gandhinagar police may seek remand of the boys to investigate similar thefts in the area. Both the boys are from middle class families. A police source in Sabarmati police station said Chauhan's father is a government officer, while Gamiti's father has a small-scale business of packaging.
