Two Indians held in UK for working illegally

Two Indian citizens have been arrested in the UK for working "illegally" in an Indian restaurant in Scotland and face deportation.

They were arrested during a raid at the Ajuba restaurant in Paisley.

The restaurant owner faces a fine of £20,000 for employing the two Indian citizens, aged 25 and 34, who did not have permission to work in the UK.

Phil Taylor, regional director of the UK Border Agency in Scotland and Northern Ireland said, "Where there are skills shortages, people can apply to come here legitimately but, if people ignore our immigration laws, we will find them and remove them from the country".

Gurarmit Singh, owner of the Ajuba, insisted he was a respectable businessman. "The younger man who was arrested was here on a trial basis and said he would bring me his documents and the older man was visiting him and was not employed here," he said.

"I can't afford anything like a fine of £20,000. This is a new business and things are not doing well."
