Toxic gas in well kills 6 of a family in Dholka

In a tragic incident, six people of the same family died after inhaling poisonous gas coming out of a borewell in Dholi village of Dholka taluka on the outskirts of Ahmedabad city. The incident occurred on Friday.

The first one to die was Valji Devipujak (42) who, while removing the cover over the well, fell inside after inhaling the gas. One after another, five people tried to go down the well to save Valji but all of them became victims of the poisonous gas.

Pravin (40) was the first to go down the well to save Valji. He was followed by Balwant Devipujak (60) and his sons – Ajit (33), Rajveer (30) and Hari (22) — who went down to save those who had gone earlier. All the six were found dead in the well. Balwant, Valji and Pravin were brothers.
All the deceased were farm laborers employed on a farm owned by one Bhura Bharwad.
