Police have arrested a tourist guide for allegedly trying to sexually assault a 14-year-old British national in the capital.

“The girl was a minor and part of a group visiting India. She was staying in Kapasheda in Delhi with 29 British nationals,” said a police official, adding that the accused was arrested on Friday after the victim gave her statement in front of the metropolitan magistrate.

According to the police, Muralidharan, a tourist guide, tried to take advantage of the minor when she was alone in Kapasheda area, in southwest Delhi, where she was staying. “Murlidharan attempted to rape her but fled the scene when she cried for help,” said the official. “The accused is in police custody and we are investigating the matter,” said the officer.

Officials said the victim has gone back to Britain. “She identified the accused and gave her statement, we allowed her to go back to her country” the officer added.
