Rescue operations had been initiated with JCB vehicles to dig up a parallel pit beside the borewell, but officials were unable to hear any cries of the child, a police officer monitoring the rescue operation told PTI over phone.

He added due to darkness it was getting difficult to proceed with the rescue work.
