Three injured in train blast in Andhra district

Three persons were seriously injured in a train blast on Wednesday at Godavari railway station, a top police official said.

Some unidentified persons had placed a bag containing sulphur and potassium in Bogie No.5, of the Vijayawada-bound passenger train No.426 - Visakhapatnam-Vijayawada, which was spotted at the Godavari railway station, the District Superintendent of Police K Nagi Reddy said.

The injured were rushed to the nearby hospital, Reddy said.

The Railway authorities detached the bogie from the train and brought it to Rajahmundry for further investigation, railway officials said and added that the passengers left for Vijayawada after nearly three hours.

The rail services were affected and trains were running late by over three hours and some trains were diverted through Rail-cum-Road bridge, the sources added.

No arrests were made Reddy said.
