A gang of burglars committed thefts at as many as seven different places in one day in Chandkheda area of the city and stole cash and jewellery worth more than Rs10 lakh. They burgled apartments and a bungalow at New CG Road on Friday afternoon.
SB Trivedi, PI of Chandkheda police station, said, "We are investigating the pattern of the thefts and assuming that a single gang either from Delhi or Karnataka is behind the robberies." A theft of Rs6.80 lakh was committed at the Swagat Status apartment, which is highest among the seven thefts registered.

Richa Varun, 25, lodged a complaint with the Chandkheda police stating that when she was away from home in the afternoon between 12.30 and 2.30 pm, some unidentified persons broke open her apartment.

The burglars also committed a theft of Rs4.14 lakh in three different flats in Maharaja Avenue.

One of the complainants Sonal Shah said when she was coming home from the market in the afternoon, she saw two unidentified persons leaving the flat next to hers carrying a huge white bag. They opened the lock of a white car in the parking area of the flat and put the bag inside.

Later she again went to the market. When she returned, she discovered Rs2 lakh had been stolen from her flat.  In another incident, a person wearing a helmet entered a bungalow of the Manmandir Bungalow where an 11-year-old girl was alone. He asked for the keys of the cupboard and stole Rs58,000 from it. The incident happened when the girl's parents were at work. Two more incidents were reported, in Silver Land apartment and one in a medical shop in Motera.

Two arrested for Dabba trading

Navrangpura police on Saturday busted a dabba trading centre in Anand Milan Complex of Navrangpura area. Two people - Ajay Singh Ghummar and Firoz Khan Pathan, who were operating the illegal trade  -- were booked under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Primary investigations in the matter revealed that Pathan and Ghummar took money from clients and invested it in gold, silver and crude oil at the stock market without providing legal proof of the investment, in cheques or other documents. All deals were made using cellphones and a register recorded them in writing. Four mobiles and one computer were seized by police from the Navrangpura office.

The traders also didn't have a certificate from Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) which qualifies their organisation to legally invest at the bourses. No documents of Multi Commodities Exchange (MCX) were found as well.

Navrangpura police have booked the duo under Securities Act, 1956 and numerous other sections of IPC for working as illegal agents, insecurity of customers' money, and for making fake documents to evade taxes to the government.

Interestingly, it has been revealed that Ghummar is related to a police inspector in Ahmedabad.
