Even as the entire Surat city was busy celebrating Diwali, a textile worker was beaten to death by four persons last night. The victim had scolded the accused for eve teasing few days back, which is believed to have led to his killing.

According to information, Jitendra Gupta, 20, a resident of Udhna Magdalla road, and a powerloom unit worker, was killed by four residents of the same area last night. Gupta was sleeping outside his house when the accused dragged him away and beat him to death with stones and pipes, before fleeing. The incident came to light in the wee hours of Sunday when Gupta's dead body was spotted. Khatodara police rushed to the scene and started investigations.

The killers were identified as Chetan Rathod, Vinod Rathod, Dharmesh Rathod and Deepak Rathod, all residents of the same locality. The four accused also used to work in textile units.

Police said that Gupta had quarrelled with the four during Navratri after they allegedly teased a girl living in the neighbourhood. Gupta used to consider the eve teasing victim as his sister, and he warned the teasers from repeating their act.
