The Majoor Mahajan Sangh, founded by Mahatma Gandhi in 1917 to voice the concerns of textile labourers of the city, celebrated its 93rd Foundation Day on Friday. The organisation, which follows the principles of truth and non-violence, will complete its century, said Ramanlal Patel, president of Majoor Mahajan Sangh.

The organisation, also known as the Textile Labour Organisation (TLA), has been taking up various issues concerning the labourers and has been bringing them up before the textile mill owners. The problems are solved in an amicable way and without resorting to any violence or going on strike, said Patel. He also said that TLA is concerned about the problems faced by the labourers of closed textile mills in the city. TLA has also diversified into other areas as the textile industry in Gujarat is facing severe problems.

AK Chaturvedi, official liquidator of the government of India, said that TLA believes in solving problems through dialogue which is very much needed for industrial growth of the state.

Amrut Modi of Sabarmati Ashram hoisted the flag as per the tradition of the association. The dignitaries invited for the function included joint provident fund commissioner NK Prasad, regional textile commissioner Satyaprakash Verma and representatives of leading textile mills of the city.
