Ten persons were arrested and a police case filed against 16 others after two groups got into altercations at the ceremony to pay tribute to Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar on his birth anniversary in Nashik.

At midnight on April 13, a crowd had gathered near Ambedkar’s statue at Shinde near Nashik Road to offer tributes.

But before it could be garlanded, a brawl broke between two groups. Sunanda Jadhav filed a complaint with the Nashik Road police alleging that when her husband Arun Jadhav tried to start the garlanding ceremony, one Priyesh Salve started abusing him.

This led to altercations between two groups in which she was also hurt.

In a counter complaint, Dadu Salve stated that Arun Jadhav and his seven accomplices beat him and his men and interrupted the programme.

Police have arrested 10 persons in this regard and further investigations are on.

Elsewhere in the city, the birth anniversary of the father of Indian constitution Dr Ambedkar was celebrated with enthusiasm.
