Former Union Minister and BJP leader Bandaru Dattatreya on Sunday criticised Andhra Pradesh assembly speaker N Manohar's decision to reject the resignations of MLAs of different parties from the Telangana region.

"It seems the speaker's decision to reject resignations of 101 MLAs was influenced by the Congress High Command as majority of them belonged to the ruling Congress party," Dattatreya said.

Terming the decision as 'undemocratic', the BJP leader said, "It was a hasty decision and taken without following constitutional procedures. MLAs of different parties of the region had submitted their resignation demanding early creation of Telangana state".

When asked whether BJP's two legislators would submit their resignations again on the lines of TRS and TDP MLAs, Dattatreya said a decision would be taken after consulting the party's central leadership.

BJP's two MLAs including state party chief G Kishan Reddy were among 101 legislators who had tendered resignations in support of Telangana.

A 30-member delegation of the party will leave for Delhi on July 26 to meet central leaders including President Nitin Gadkari and NDA convenor Sharat Yadav to appraise them about the prevailing situation in the state. Dattatreya said the delegation would also request the party's central leaders to mount pressure on Congress to move a bill on separate Telangana state in the monsoon session of parliament.

Accusing ruling Congress and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) of playing with the sentiments of Telangana people, Dattatreya said the state BJP has chalked out a 3-day programme from August 5, "to expose dubious stand of both the parties on the issue of separate statehood for Telangana" and has organised rallies and meetings at village and mandal levels.
